Probably no chance of "finding" a replacement any time soon! :o(Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7815640431651173676.post-89245026372305153862008-03-28T08:38:00.000+00:002008-03-28T08:38:00.000+00:00I've had one for a few months and it's been great....I've had one for a few months and it's been great. It draws lots of admiring glances on the train and several people in the office who have seen it want one now. The build quality on these is impressive, considering how cheap they are. It's incredibly light and portable, yet extremely sturdy.

Battery life could be better. I get two hours from mine - something that my Powerbook beats by another hour. The screen is also a pain in the arm - although the next model will have a larger screen in the same casing.

I've upgraded mine a bit. I replaced the 512MB Ram with 2GB (not that I've ever needed that, as Linux runs well enough in the 512MB); I've stuck in a Veho 8GB class 6 SD card, and best of all, replaced the default Xandros Linux operating system with a modified version of Ubuntu Linux called eeeXubuntu. Xandros is actually pretty decent, and it's well optimised for this device, but I've been using Linux as my main OS for eight or nine years so I'm most comfortable with a proper Gnome/Xfce/KDE desktop.

Installing Firefox 3, which features screen scaling, is a good idea as it allows you to view pages that are too wide for the display - it's only 800x480 but many web pages are wider so you have to scroll horizontally if you don't install it. The www.eeeuser.com is also well worth a look (as you've already found!) and includes shed loads of information on how to tweak it.

MattAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
